A Hard Summer, a Healing God
Welcome back to The Courage Within Podcast! I’m Libier, and this is the beginning of Season Five. I’m so excited to be here with you.
This summer was one of the hardest of my life. I’ve been working on writing a screenplay about my story, and while it’s been a beautiful process, it’s also brought up deep wounds I thought I’d already processed. Some days I found myself in tears, praying on my knees that God would heal me. Honestly, I avoided writing at times because I was afraid of reopening that pain.
But God gently reminded me: we overcome the pain of this world by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony (Revelation 12:11).
Facing Old Wounds
As I’ve written, memories of my father abandoning our family when I was seven have resurfaced with new intensity. Now, as a mom, picturing my husband walking away from our daughters the way my dad did with us breaks my heart in ways I couldn’t understand as a child.
Writing my story has forced me to sit with the details, not just the facts. And while it’s been excruciating, it’s also been freeing — because in those painful places, Jesus has been meeting me.
I’ve realized how much self-reliance I still carried, even as a believer. By not exposing certain wounds to Jesus, I was unknowingly letting them direct parts of my life. But God is so loving. When I made space to sit with my pain, He showed me areas of brokenness He wanted to heal.
The Scripture That Changed Everything
In the middle of my pain, the Lord led me to Jeremiah 32:37–41.
“I will rejoice in doing them good and will assuredly plant them in this land with all my heart and soul.”
Friend, let that sink in: God rejoices in doing you good. Even if people reject you, betray you, or walk away, He never will.
This truth moved from head knowledge to heart revelation for me. I’ve been memorizing it, praying that it shapes the way I see myself — not as someone defined by abandonment, but as a beloved daughter planted in God’s faithfulness.
Cheap Substitutes vs. True Comfort
When we face pain, it’s tempting to run to substitutes — whether that’s alcohol, food, shopping, busyness, or control. I’ve been there. I used to numb myself with distractions, even chips (Flamin’ Hot, anyone?) because that was linked to my childhood memories.
But here’s what God showed me: these things don’t treasure us back. They’re temporary comforts with dead-end outcomes. Only Jesus can heal our wounds and fill the deep ache in our hearts.
Pain with a Purpose
Pain is hard. But like strength training at the gym, pain stretches and strengthens us. The soreness signals growth. Spiritually, it’s the same. God uses crushing seasons to build spiritual muscle, capacity, and endurance.
Your challenges are not meant to wipe you out — they are shaping you for the purpose He created you for.
You Are Enough in Christ
This world tells us our worth is in success, titles, or achievements. But the truth is, our worth is in Christ alone.
Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6). He is the only way to healing, the only truth we can rely on, and the only life that satisfies.
You are already enough — not because of what you’ve done, but because of what Jesus has done for you.
A Closing Prayer
Friend, if you are walking through pain right now, I want to pray with you:
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that You never leave us. Thank You that You rejoice in doing us good and that You plant us in Your faithfulness. Lord, heal the wounds that feel too heavy to bear. Restore hope, bring comfort, and remind my friend that their pain is not in vain. Fill them with Your joy, Your peace, and Your love. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
If this encouraged you, please share it with a friend who needs hope today. And don’t forget: new episodes will be coming bi-weekly this season.
I love you so much, and I pray this season of The Courage Within brings you healing and strength.
