Now that we’re moving closer to the holiday season, self-care can fall through the cracks! I want to equip you with seven tips to be consistent and stick to your skincare routine! My hope is that you would choose yourself every single day (even if it’s for a little while) for the sake of perhaps taking back some of your personal power this Holiday Season. We must make margin for rest, for caring for ourselves because it doesn’t come pre-packaged in the hustle and bustle of life; ESPECIALLY not during these holiday months.

For me, self-care is absolutely non-negotiable because when I give myself the time to care for my body, mind, and soul; I feel more ready and with more capacity to love, serve, and give of myself to my family, friends, and career throughout the day.

I make this a first-in-the-morning intention to do something for myself, even if some days all I can do is as small as a morning skincare routine.

I go with the Non-Perfect just Progress approach to everything in my life as well as my routines! I used to be a slave to perfectionism and never accomplished anything for the fear of it not turning out “perfect”. Nothing is perfect aside from Jesus, truly. I make sure everything I think is important for me to accomplish or do in my life, I do with excellence or the BEST of my effort, and I leave the rest to God. He is able to help me even when I fail or make mistakes or fall short. Which is ALL THE TIME. I’m okay with that now. I feel free to mess up. I feel like I am more apt to do things that make me feel uncomfortable if I think of #progessOVERperfection.

So if perfection is trapping you as well; I pray for you to be released from that illusion and be inspired to free yourself to do everything in your life in a way that doesn’t always feel “completed”. These little stepping stones of trying things and being okay to feel like a failure or the feeling of being a novice or vulnerable to feeling like a goober trying something you’re not very good at yet. Listen, feelings are just a vibration that goes through your body and last 90 seconds! They are a gauge of what your emotional condition is like. Your feelings are here to guide your life, not meant to overwhelm you but give you information about what is important to you or what is going on IN you. If we learn to sit with uncomfortable feelings, we learn to master our-self in a way that is revolutionary. We no longer get pushed to action by our emotions but rather are able to learn from them and have them be a guide to who we want to BECOME.

You can handle embarrassment! You can handle humiliation! You can handle failure. As my life coach once said to me, “Failure is in the same neighborhood as success.” You can’t only pick to feel your good feelings. This is a whole life choice. You feel all of them, or you numb and distract.

With food, or shopping, or business, or criticism,or drugs, or alcohol, or sex, or pornography, or anger, or screens, or workaholism, or TV. You can’t have it both ways. But I will tell you. I’ve been the girl who’s distracted with pretty much everything up there. And I have also soberly walked through some painful healing and sat in some dark places of my soul only to find that there is another SIDE full of treasure through that pain. I’ve discovered and recovered so much through just being real with myself about my feelings (ALL OF THEM) as well as my past pain and unfelt and unresolved grief.

Acknowledging what I am feeling has saved my life. Accepting what I can not change has saved my life. And forgiving them and myself to make room for the new person I want to become has given me hope for tomorrow. And this all started with one little decision to pay attention to me and care for myself.

I know if you’re here, you’re trying to not distract. You are BRAVE AND CAN DO HARD THINGS! You can handle all the feelings that are potentially robbing you of being your BEST SELF! These stepping stones of giving yourself consistency in one area will inevitably give you a staircase of consistency throughout your entire life, not just in your skincare!

I know consistency was something I lacked, so I picked ONE habit to be consistent in for a year and I gave myself a very CLEAR AND IMPORTANT WHY. Why did it matter that I stick to my routine? It’s a private answer for me. I encourage you to think of why you want to do anything that matters to you. Your why has to be something important to YOU so it can spur you on to make a lifestyle change so you can achieve a big goal or dream in your life! My “why” worked! It was my nighttime skincare routine that started me on a journey to freedom and it’s been so sweet to discover more capacity within me! Now, I have so many other good habits that have led me to create my dream life with God’s wisdom and help! A life I love waking up to, full of zest, hope for life, and wonder!

Skincare as a habit is fantastic because your skin will respond to care, love, and attention; almost instantly in some ways and you’ll start seeing those long-term changes with consistency and time! But no matter what, It will be a result you can SEE! It will become a joy to care for your skin daily. At least it has for me! Especially if you pick the right ingredients and products that suit your personal skin type! This is a journey in itself and I am happy to say there are so many videos out there that you can learn from so do your research about what you personally need, even better, find a dermatologist to guide you in the right combo of ingredients for your routine. Then find what works for you. I know for me, charlotte Tilbury has been a fantastic fit for my personal skin. I’ve been a huge fan for a long while!

Some days you’ll feel like doing a SPA night using all the fancy things. And if that’s the case and your skin needs moisture this season. I can highly recommend The Revitalising Magic Mini Set from the Holiday collection. It includes travel sizes of two amazing products; one NEW and one award-winning staple Moisturizer!! Their NEW Magic Serum Crystal Elixir has Polyglutamic acid, it is a hydration powerhouse and will penetrate your skin to help your skin look younger. The Magic serum is infused with REPLEXIUM for younger-looking skin and Golden vitamin C for a brighter complexion. It is so beautiful and leaves the skin looking absolutely radiant and you feel bouncy and ready for sleep or makeup! You can use it day or night! The kit also comes with Charlotte’s award-winning, dew-in-a-bottle, adorable mini-size of Charlotte’s Magic Cream; A moisturizer that is worthy of looking beautiful on your vanity and giving you instant and long-lasting results.

If you’re trying to find the dewy-EST version of your skin, this duo is it!!!

Other nights you might feel like the LAST thing you want to do is take off your makeup or wash your face. Still do it. Tell your brain, I’m only going to take off my mascara with an oil cleanser and if I don’t do anything else, that’s still enough tonight. You’d be surprised that just the act of getting up and doing one part of your routine makes your soul inspired to do it all. Maybe missing a few steps. But that’s okay! We’re looking for consistency and progress, not perfection, right? RIGHT!

A skincare routine in the morning and at night is a really good way to signal to yourself that you are important to yourself! It’s a 5 to 15-minute commitment that you can make with yourself each night and each morning where you get to just breathe and focus on yourself. This is a way to gain confidence when you show up for yourself when you said you would! A lot of us think it’s either I’m all in or all out! How about right in the middle?

7 Tips To Be More Consistent With Your Skincare Routine

  1. Have good products you enjoy looking at and that are efficient!

  2. Do your routine as early as you can when you get home or right after dinner. It’s dark enough in the fall and winter months to get your active ingredients on without the sun being a factor!

  3. Write in a planner a weekly routine that works for your skin so you have a cheat sheet when you are tired and can’t remember! 🤣

  4. Be flexible and keep it simple.

  5. Make yourself a little oasis with candles, and little facial towels for quick drying. Make the habit easy and attractive (I learned this and tip #6 from the book Atomic Habits by Jame Clear, a MUST read in my eyes!)

  6. Stack your habits with flossing and brushing your teeth so you can do something you’re already used to doing with something you want to incorporate as a new habit.

  7. Reward yourself with a Netflix show or reading your favorite book after your routine.
