Saying you love someone is one of the most courageous things you can possibly do! Love is something we cultivate every. single. day. by little actions that tell our partners, they are important to us. Listen, it’s been one heck of a year and this Valentine’s Day might come with many challenges for you in your relationship. You’ve been feeling super hurt from everything that’s gone on…. How can you possibly take the space and time to celebrate a holiday like Valentine’s Day? Friend, no one understands you more than me! As much as I possibly can, I know you must be going through your own struggles and challenges. If your heart is heavy, I’m so sorry: I am praying for you and giving you a BIG hug and saying you’re definitely not alone. I get it. me too!
My heart was also heavy this weekend. We just heard the news of a precious family member dealing with cancer on Friday so my mood was not very saucy over our staycation. However. I had a choice to make: Do I allow exterior circumstances to dictate every feeling I have? Or can I make space for celebration as well? I decided to put on my celebration hat. And if you need to borrow mine for your celebration, here you go, *takes off a hybrid “Sombero/Chic type hat” and gives it to you with a smile, a wink-wink, and a nod-nod*! Life is full of ups and downs. It is full of challenges, but if you have eyes to see, it is also full of wonder.

I decided that my relationship with my husband is far too important to not be intentional about it. Doug and I decided to enjoy a complimentary staycation at Kimpton The Sawyer this past weekend. Yes, the world seems like it’s crumbling. However, the effort we put forth into our most valued relationships will be crucial and important as our life plays out. The more I live, the more I realize the biggest treasures in my life are the relationships God has gifted me with. HAVE A STAYCATION OR BOOK A SPECIAL DINNER MOMENT:
With our “imaginary” celebration hats, we scurried off to a magical dinner in an igloo and a Staycation at the Kimpton The Sawyer in Sacramento: Which is by far one of the most sophisticated, wonderfully located hotels in Sacramento. At the heart of Downtown Sacramento, it invites you to see the city in a new light! I love staying there because even though I am still home, it feels like a peaceful getaway. With the beautiful rooftop pool and the gorgeous walking dynamics of having all these restaurants right below you feeling the buzz of downtown right under your feet!
The Kimpton The Sawyer had the ingenious idea of turning a space that wasn’t being utilized into these chic and adorable Winter Igloos that you can reserve for your party and have small igloo bites!! It’s a great little space that gives you the feeling of being “normal” again but still in very much the code of what we need to do to keep others and ourselves as safe as we can. The night was so fun celebrating with our friends. And if you live in Sacramento, I would highly suggest this really fun idea of having a staycation at the Kimpton
Meet, Patrick, our chef of the night and the reason we ENJOYED our Igloo experience so much! Thank you, Patrick, for sharing your culinary excellence! EVERY bite was filled with joy and just amazing to try all these little different foods rather than a big meal! I love being able to sample many things! My ultimate favorite was the crispy chicken wings, they had a great kick of spicy, my taste buds loved! We quickly ate the delectable food presented to us and ordered more as we enjoyed the amazing conversation and the beautiful ambiance of the lights and the cozy patio furniture! It’s really cozy and cute! We even had a little Bluetooth speaker to play soft music from our phone to enjoy the night!

The next morning as we checked out I felt so much gratitude that we can still make moments to celebrate what is good. That is our choice. The act of loving and celebrating is the reason we grieve when we lose anyone we love. So let’s remember life has a full circle in all things. You love and you grieve because you love but you can’t choose just one. Be courageous. Your heart is a muscle anyway. The more you allow it to love and lose, love and lose the better it gets at giving and receiving: amor (love)!! And isn’t that what we are all really hoping for? Is to love and be loved?
Just so you know, Jesus loves you. No matter if you have someone to call this Valentine’s day or not. Jesus loves you and he alone can satisfy every need your heart has. So celebrate love because the lover of the Universe, the one who created you loves you incredibly so!
